Tereza Nvotová (1988, Trnava, Czechoslovakia) graduated in direction from film academy FAMU in Prague. Her sophomore feature, NIGHTSIREN (Svetlonoc, 2022), premiered in Locarno Film Festival – Cineasti del presente, where it won Golden Leopard for the Best Film. Following, in Sitges FF the film won the Silver Melies for the Best European Production. The film traveled more than 40 international film festivals where Tereza received multiple Best Directing awards. It has been sold for distribution to US, Germany, Japan, Poland, South Korea, Portugal, UK and streamers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

Her feature debut FILTHY (Špina, 2017), which was Tereza’s graduation film, has been screened in major festivals around the world including Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, Cairo, and Santa Barbara. During its distribution FILTHY took home more than 20 awards, including the Czech Film Critics Award for the Best Film of the year.


Tereza collaborated with various broadcasting companies, most notably HBO who has co-produced her feature debut and two documentary films. Her latest HBO documentary THE LUST FOR POWER (Mečiar, 2017) has been shortlisted for the European Film Academy Awards 2018. It was critically acclaimed and has caused heated debate about populism and corruption in politics.

Tereza is teaching students of direction at Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).

She is a member of European Film Academy and Czech Film Academy.

She is currently working on her third feature FATHER (SK,CZ,PL) and international TV mini-series OUR PEOPLE, among other projects.

She is represented by United Talent Agency and Black Bear Management.

Tereza lives between Prague and New York.
